To find out how much a HIP would cost on your property please use the calculator on this page. The price quoted is the price you would pay - there is no VAT to add or any other nasty surprises.

The questions relating to postcode and bedrooms should be straightforward. With regard to delivery of HIP this is usually by email in .pdf format and most Estate Agents will accept this. However should they, or you, require a physical printed copy there is an option for this.

For tenure of property - as a general rule houses are freehold and flats are leasehold (or commonhold) although there are exceptions to this.

General info about Home information packs

Most people will be using the Estate Agent who is selling their property to also provide the home information pack. But is this the best option?

The price for a home information pack can vary widely from Estate Agent to Estate Agent. Some are offering extremely competitively priced HIPs and others are not. What if you want to go with a particular Estate Agent who you think would best sell your house and get you the best price but the cost of their home information pack is the highest?

It is possible to save a hundred pounds or more by getting your own HIP done.

This is available to customers throughout Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and there is no extra VAT to pay.

This is very important for the individual customer - remember when you are offered a good price for your HIP "plus VAT" you are adding an extra 17.5% to the cost.

In other words if an Estate Agents quotes their home information pack at £230 plus VAT it would seem at first glance to be cheaper, but the final cost to you, unable to claim back the VAT, is £270 - £31 more expensive!

I'm only using the price of £230 as an example - you may have found Estate Agents quoting figures of £299, £349, £399 or more, all "plus VAT".
